Innovative Technology
Recotherm started in 1985 originally building swimming pool ventilation systems incorporating refrigerate based dehumidifiers (sometimes mistakenly called heat pumps). During not only designing the AHU’s, but also commissioning and servicing the units, our MD, Martin Killen, noticed that the dehumidifier was only being used intermittently the fresh air brought in during the occupied periods was doing all the dehumidification that was required.
He designed a unit system which will only bring in the exact amount of fresh air that is required to control the humidity.
At the time the only air handling units that operated on fresh air were full fresh air units. Coming from a heat recovery background, he knew it had to have an air to air heat recuperator to recover the heat from any air, before it is discharged to the atmosphere. Eliminating the need for an expensive compressor, associated condenser and evaporator coils.
This design, which was first introduced by Recotherm in 1992, and has been widely adopted by most manufactures of swimming pool ventilation units.

Always moving forward, over the years we carried out further improvements to our swimming pool ventilation units, including the introduction of plug fans in 1995, which were originally speed controlled via frequency inverters, but are now more commonly used in conjunction with EC motors.
At the forefront of swimming pool ventilation innovation and energy saving, we have recently started using Blue fin fans for our Recotherm ventilation units, which have a marginally better eco-friendly efficiency than the standard fans, and as the saying goes “every little helps”, over the lifetime of the unit this can equate to huge savings.
