Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency figures of greater than 100% may not be as they seem

Energy efficiency, it’s what we are all trying to achieve, the holly grail.  Whether this be for global warming, reducing carbon footprints, or to combat the ever increasing costs of energy.  It is something we at Recotherm have strived for since it’s conception over 37 years ago.  We were the first to introduce recuperators into the design, we were the first to introduce direct driven speed controlled fans and now we are the first to introduce units working directly with an air source heat pump to provide water free heating.

We have always advocated the use of fresh air in dehumidifying the pool. But now given the high price of electricity isn’t it time that everybody stopped dehumidifying with electricity driven compressors.  The reason you need a 20 Amp supply to your dehumidifier is that is has a electrically driven compressor, an equivalent Recotherm unit would require a 5Amp supply.

So you could you ask why don’t we shout about our energy efficiency percentages of our units compared to others.  We pride ourselves on being innovative in the field and with this comes knowledge…Knowledge of the First Law of Thermodynamics:

Energy cannot be created or destroyed but it can be transformed from one form to another . The total amount of energy and matter in the Universe remains constant.”

This means that no machine can be more than 100% energy efficient as this would mean you have created energy.  Machines normally operate at lower efficiencies because some energy is wasted, for example a 90% efficient light bulb will convert the energy to 90% light and 10% heat, meaning 10% of the energy is not being efficient as it’s lost in heat rather the desired output of light.

So you may wish to question these astronomical efficiency percentages if you see them.
